On our first Saturday we decided to go for a family brunch at Docs on Bainbridge Island, which Becca had fond memories of from a previous trip. Unfortunately it was closed until 11am then only serving lunch, but we had a really good coffee from Pegasus next door, possibly the best I’ve had a while, then a tasty early lunch at Docs, even with a gluten free burger for Becca!
Kate’s brother Doug and his friend Katie arrived by ferry from the airport while we were at Docs, up for Labor Day weekend from the Bay Area, and we all headed back to the house in Silverdale for a couple of hours to get to know each other.
Doug took Katie off on a tour of the local area, and Kate, Becca and I headed to Bremerton for the infamous Blackberry Festival. There were lots of food and craft stalls, including one selling ornaments made pf rusty metal and old spoons making a dragonfly but also one promoting blackberry wine and desert wine (25c a taste) which we left with a bottle of desert wine, and one selling GIGANTIC blackberry pies. When we ordered one ($30!) all the staff in the tent shouted “whole pie” before handing it over. Here is a photo of the three of us enjoying the sunshine.
Before heading home we went to Coldstone Creamery for a tub of delicious ice cream mixed with a range of toppings – another of Becca’s memories from a past trip!
Dinner with the Cummingses plus Katie was good, followed by the first of some of that delicious blackberry pie!
